From “Why” to a Lifetime of Methodology

Now that I have passed my 60th year, I feel a growing desire to put into words everything I have experienced and learned firsthand. Throughout my 40-year career as an engineer and later as a technical executive, I have never stopped asking one fundamental question: “Why?

The starting point for this mindset was my graduation trip to Europe as a student. By exploring its history, culture, religion, and architecture, I realized that understanding the underlying “structure” of things fundamentally changes how you see the world. This perspective has been the pillar of my life ever since.

Connecting the Dots through “Structure”

At first glance, the themes of this blog may seem disparate, but to me, they are all connected by a single thread—the pursuit of structural understanding:

  • Energy Self-Sufficiency: Addressing Japan’s structural energy challenges by verifying real-world data from V2H and solar power systems.
  • Asset Management: Moving “sleeping assets”—the high cash ratios prevalent in Japan—through risk-return analysis and quantitative metrics.
  • The Value of Lifelong Items: Exploring true sustainability through the lens of high-end shoes and items I have maintained for over 30 years.
  • Overcoming the Yips: Applying a reproducible structural approach to overcome a multi-year struggle with the golf “driver yip”.

Sharing Reproducible Methodologies

My goal is not simply to share “know-how,” but to organize the processes of my own trials, failures, and improvements into reproducible methodologies.

Rather than offering superficial tips, I hope to provide hints that help us make better choices by thinking deeply about “why things work the way they do.”
